Description
The new extradosed bridge encompasses the portion of the new highway (Third Ring of Mecca). The project consists of two separate bridges, each of them containing one full carriageway. The main span of the bridge is 145 m, and spans over the pedestrian area leading to the Jamarat area. The cross section of the bridge, with a constant depth of 2m, consists of 2 main edge girders aligned with the extradosed cable plane, and a series of transversal girders at approx. 6.0 m center to center. The deck is monolithically connected to the pylon and supported on spherical multi sliding bearings at the intermediate piers, and a pair of sliding spherical bearings and a transversal shear key on each abutment. The bridge has skew angle of approx. 34°. The bridge is conceived as fully cast in situ.
