This 4 phase intersection is characterized with significant delay times as well as the development of long vehicle queues during peak hours, and two solutions were proposed. The first proposal was to prohibit signal phases for left turning movements, effectively reducing the number of phases into 2, and providing u-turns at each leg to compensate for said movements. The second was to convert the intersection into a grade separated partial cloverleaf interchange.
